This report presents an application for funding under the Council’s Community Fund Programme.
An application for community funding has been received from 1st Warsash Sea Scouts, for the sum of £2,000 to contribute to two new Canadian canoes, safety equipment and a replacement dinghy.
1st Warsash Sea Scouts is a popular branch of the Scouts Association. They offer the same opportunities as land-based scouts, such as fun and challenging activities and the chance to make a positive impact to their communities, in addition to providing water based activities in their programme.
The group currently has 170 members, and is also working with the Fareham West Explorers Group, Warsash Sailing Club and local land-based scout groups to increase opportunities for children to try water based activities. They plan to bring their equipment to the Warsash Strawberry Fayre, and to contact local schools, to further extend these opportunities.
The organisation is replacing worn equipment, but also has a strong focus on increasing opportunities for its younger members. The addition of Canadian canoes, which have a much more stable base, would enable this expansion.
The 2015/16 accounts of the organisation list a carry forward of £25,892. However, £4,070 was ring-fenced for repairs to the boatshed, camping equipment, and securing nine further kayaks. The remaining funds are being used to continue to repair and replace equipment.
Both Ward Councillors, Cllr Ford and Cllr Cartwright, are supportive of this application.
