The report presents the nominations for the Council’s Young Citizen of the Year 2014 award for category 12-18 years old.
The Citizen of Honour Award was introduced in November 1996. Five years later, the scheme was extended to recognise the efforts of younger residents under the age of 18 through the Young Citizen of the Year Award.
Over the last 17 years, the award has honoured 64 residents of the Borough, with nominations being received from all areas of Fareham.
This year, the Council has received 35 nominations. The winners of the 4-11 and 18+ categories were chosen at the April Executive.
In total, there were 12 nominations for the 12-18 category. However, these have been reduced to 3, as a number of the original nominations put forward contained exactly the same nomination reasons. This made it impossible to differentiate between the individual nominations and decide a winner at the April Executive. The person who put in the original ‘group’ nominations was subsequently contacted and they chose the 2 young people from the group who they thought were most deserving of the award. They have been included in this report for consideration along with another young resident of the Borough.
