Apologies for absence were received from Councillor P Davies, Councillor T Davies and Councillor N Gregory.
Members are advised that Section 249 of the Local Government Act 1972 provides that the office of Honorary Alderman may be conferred on a past Member in recognition of their eminent services to the Council. Such a proposal must be supported by not less than two thirds of the Members voting on the proposal at the meeting.
Council is asked to consider the following motion:
That the late former Councillor Keith Evans be admitted to the roll of Honorary Alderman of the Borough of Fareham in recognition and acknowledgement of his eminent services to the Council from 1988 to 2020.
The Mayor announced that this was a special meeting of the Council convened in accordance with Section 249 of the Local Government Act 1972 to consider the investiture of Honorary Alderman to the late Keith Evans.
The following motion was proposed by Councillor S D T Woodward and seconded by Councillor T M Cartwright, MBE:
“That the late Keith Evans be admitted to the Roll of Honorary Aldermen to the Borough of Fareham in recognition and acknowledgement of his eminent services to the Council between 1988 to 2020.”
In reaching its decision, the Council took account of Keith Evans’ service as a Councillor.
During the debate, Councillors Mrs S M Bayford, Mrs C L A Hockley, R H Price, JP, J M Englefield spoke in memoriam of former Councillor Evans.
On being put to the meeting, the motion was declared CARRIED unanimously.
RESOLVED that the late Keith Evans be admitted to the Roll of Honorary Alderman of the Borough of Fareham in recognition and acknowledgement of his eminent services to the Council from 1988 to 2020.
Upon the motion being carried, the Mayor presented Mrs Eve Evans with a formal document commemorating the grant of office, together with the badge of office. Mrs Eve Evans was invited to sign the Roll of Honour, duly witnessed by the Mayor and the Chief Executive Officer.
Alex Evans addressed the Council in reply.
The Mayor then concluded the meeting.
